You will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to maximize your eligibility for Federal, State, and Berry College financial assistance. Before you start the FAFSA for the first time, we encourage you to apply for a Federal Student Aid (FSA) I.D. This is a requirement for students and parents. Your FSA I.D. is used to confirm your identity when accessing your financial aid information and electronically signing your federal student aid documents.
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Berry College ID number 001554 should be entered when you list the schools where the information should be sent. You will receive the results of your FAFSA in the form of a Student Aid Report (SAR) at the email address listed on the FAFSA approximately 4-6 days after electronic filing. The FAFSA becomes available on October 1st of each year. We encourage you to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to access tax returns for both parents and students when filling the FAFSA. This will make the data as accurate as possible and expedite the process.
The Federal Processor selects a percentage of FAFSA filers to complete a process called "verification." If you are selected for verification, you will be required to complete a verification worksheet, use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool or provide Berry with a Federal Tax Transcript and other items as requested. You will be notified about this process by the Office of Financial Aid by email after you receive your financial aid award letter.
If you are a Georgia resident, you need to complete the FAFSA application at fafsa.gov or file the GSFAPPS application at gafutures.org in order to be considered for state aid. The Georgia Student Finance Commission will determine your eligibility for HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarship funds and the Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant (GTEG).
You will receive an initial award letter from Berry College with your acceptance package, and your award will be updated when your FAFSA information is received and processed. Berry College automatically considers all students for Federal student loans. We will provide instructions on how to either decline, accept or reduce the student loan(s) offered. If you accept your student loans, there are additional items needed to complete the application process. These items will be detailed in your financial aid award materials.
We are more than happy to assist you with any questions about the process! You can call us at (706) 236-2215 or email admissions@berry.edu for help.
