Gate of Opportunity Scholars are chosen through a competitive application and interview process. They must be financially eligible based on official, verified Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) results.
To be eligible for consideration, interested high school seniors should complete the following steps:
- Apply for freshman admission and be admitted to Berry College by the appropriate deadline for your preferred application type (link).Students must be admitted to Berry for the fall term in order to be eligible for Gate of Opportunity consideration.
- Submit the Common Scholarship Application, which is available online by logging into Viking Web. The deadline is January 15, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The selection committee reserves the right to receive late applications through late January 2017, but interested students are encouraged to submit the application by the priority deadline.
- Complete the 2017-18 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have the official results sent to Berry College by January 15, 2017. Berry College’s Title IV code is 001554. Families may file the 2017-18 FAFSA using 2015 tax information.
A selection committee will review complete applications and select students to participate in an interview process. We notify all applicants in late January (by email) if they have been selected to interview or not.
Interviews will be held on the Berry College campus on Saturday, February 4, 2017 and Saturday, February 18, 2017. Invited students will be asked to register for and attend one of these interview days in its entirety.
Up to 10 students will be selected from the interview process and offered the Gate of Opportunity Scholarship as incoming freshmen. All interview candidates will be notified by early March 2017 if they have been selected or not.
Selected students will have until May 1, 2017 to accept the Gate of Opportunity Scholarship offer and pay the enrollment deposit to attend Berry College.

The common Scholarship Application becomes available online at Viking Web - be sure to select the "Gate of Opportunity" when submitting the application.

Gate Interview Days (held on the Berry College campus) - morning through mid-afternoon. *Selected interview candidates will be invited to register for one Gate Interview Day (February 4 or 18); all candidates will receive equal consideration regardless of the date they attend.

May 1, 2017
Deadline to accept Gate of Opportunity Scholarship (for those offered the scholarship) and pay enrollment deposit to attend Berry. Selected students may also be asked to provide additional paperwork for the Office of Financial Aid by this deadline.
Early to Mid-June 2017
Attend one of five Student Orientation, Advising and Orientation (SOAR) sessions (required of all incoming Berry freshmen, including Gate Scholars). Each SOAR session takes place during weekdays and involves an overnight stay at Berry. Registration for SOAR typically begins in March (for those admitted students who have paid the enrollment deposit to attend Berry). Additional information about SOAR is available here.
