Short Bio

DR. JULIA BARNES is Associate Professor of Spanish and Chair of the World Languages and Cultures department. She holds degrees from Davidson College, Yale Divinity School, UNC-Chapel Hill, and the University of Georgia. Her research interests include modern and contemporary Spanish literature and culture, and in particular the representation of gender and violence in the contemporary Spanish novel.  She is the author of a number of academic articles.  Dr. Barnes is also the faculty director of the Berry College English as a Second Language Program, a free program that offers English language instructions to members of the Rome and surrounding communities.
