Short Bio

Katie Morales has 30 years experience as a Registered Nurse.  Her practice areas include adult medical/surgical, orthopedics, emergency department, and intensive care.  She has written policy and procedure and served on the proactive risk assessment committee at Union General Hospital.  Mrs. Morales was an assistant professor of nursing at the University of North Georgia prior to coming to Berry.  She served as an item writer and reviewer for the NCLEX exam.  She is certified in adult medical/surgical nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, Certified Nurse Educator by the National League for Nursing, and Acute/Critical Care Nursing by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.  Her professional activities include serving as the 2009 President Atlanta chapter of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants, national AALNC Chair of Education Committee, author for the third edition of Legal Nurse Consulting: Principles & Practice, and reviewer of Developing an Independent Legal Nurse Consulting Practice.  Mrs. Morales was a contributor to the Emergency Nursing Bible and a regular contributor for Nurse Together As a member of the American Nurses Association and the Georgia Nurses Association, she served on the Advocacy Committee, Ad hoc Nursing Practice Committee, Reference Committee, and Ad hoc Legislative Committee.  She is a member of the National League for Nursing, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Atlanta Bar Association Disaster Response Committee and Outreach Sub Committee, Sigma Theta Tau (2013 Vice President Tau Psi Chapter) and Alpha Chi Honor Society.  Mrs. Morales is enrolled in the PhD program at Georgia Baptist College of Nursing at Mercer University. 

Education

Dr. Morales was an assistant professor of nursing at the University of North Georgia prior to coming to Berry. She served as an item writer and reviewer for the NCLEX exam and is a Certified Nurse Educator by the National League for Nursing. 

Research Interests

Dr. Morales received her PhD from Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University.  Her dissertation research was a mixed methods, feasibility study which tested the effect of a resident-focused hand hygiene intervention in a long-term care facility.

Selected Publications

Dr. Morales is a contributor to five books: Legal Nurse Consulting: Principles & Practice; The Emergency Nursing Bible; NCLEX-RN Review. Keeping it Real! Simplified; Nursing Made Easy; and Pharmacology Made Easy.  She has written several articles on nursing education including “Active learning strategies to enhance nursing students’ knowledge of pharmacology” in Nursing Education Perspectives, “Using an aquarium and pump to demonstrate cardiac function” for QSEN Teaching strategy and“Use of an Aquarium and Pump to Demonstrate Cardiac Function.” in Nursing Education Perspectives.  She was a reviewer of Developing an Independent Legal Nurse Consulting Practice and also serves as apeer reviewer for Nursing Education Perspectives. 

Professional Associations

Dr. Morales’ professional activities include membership in Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Association for General & Liberal Studies, Graduate Nursing Student Academy (Liaison Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University), Sigma Theta Tau International, Alpha Chi, National League for Nursing, and Georgia Association of Nurse Educators (2016 Chair Nominating Committee).  She was the 2009 President Atlanta chapter of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants and national AALNC Chair of Education Committee.
