2009 Alumni Award Winners
Each year during Alumni Weekend in June, a handful of Berry alumni are recognized for their outstanding contributions. Once recognized, they are honored in the Hall of Fame in the Berry Alumni Center.
THE DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
J. Lowell Loadholtz (60C), is the retired extension director for Brevard County, Fla., past president of the Florida Association of County Agricultural Agents and an inductee into the National Hall of Fame for County Agricultural Agents.
Oliver Welch (52H, 56c) is a 1952 graduate of the Martha Berry School for Boys who attended Berry College and received his doctoral degree from Georgia State University.
THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
Dr. Larry McRae (60C) distinguished himself in scholarship and service throughout his 31-year career as a faculty member in Berry’s chemistry department.
THE ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT AWARD
Nona Sparks Patterson (58C) started her career as a teacher but eventually made her mark as an entrepreneur in the furniture business.
THE OUTSTANDING YOUNG ALUMNI AWARD
Jonathan Trapp (99C) is emergency manager for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. In that role, he works to ensure the CDC’s ability to respond to any emergency that may impact a CDC facility or staff member.
