Atlanta-based Carter to manage design and construction of Valhalla stadium

Carter, one of the nation’s leading real-estate investment, development and advisory firms, will serve as program manager for the development of Valhalla, Berry’s new athletic stadium. The facility will be located south of Maple Drive in the field bordered by Martha Berry Highway and Memory Lane. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall and be completed by mid-summer 2015.

When completed, Valhalla will provide a home for Berry’s NCAA Division III programs in football, lacrosse, and track and field, as well as other on-campus events. Features will include grand-stand seating for 1,800 spectators, the synthetic turf Williams Field and synthetic Clark Track. Game-day parking will be available in existing lots at the nearby Steven J. Cage Athletic and Recreation Center. Funds for the project are being raised through LifeReady: The Berry College Campaign for Opportunity.

“We are proud of our involvement in the design and development of Valhalla, which we believe will provide Berry College with an athletic facility befitting of the school’s rich heritage and tradition of excellence,” said Todd Bradford, Carter vice president. “The addition of top-level intercollegiate athletic programs, including NCAA football, marks an exciting time of growth for the Viking community.”

Valhalla’s name is a tribute to Berry’s mascot, the Vikings. In Norse mythology, Valhalla is an enormous hall where Viking warriors spend eternity, often depicted with twin towers and massive arched doors. The stadium’s entrance plaza will offer visitors concessions and other amenities. Additionally, on-site locker rooms will accommodate men’s and women’s home and visiting teams.

“We are excited to get started on our new athletic stadium with Carter managing the project,” said Brian Erb, Berry’s vice president for business and finance. “We know our students are looking forward to home games at Valhalla in 2015.”
