DID YOU KNOW?
Postage is now determined by the size, shape, and weight of a mail piece. Sometimes your choice of envelopes or packaging materials increases the cost of postage. Check with Mail Services for cost saving tips.
International postage rates have been simplified. You can choose First Class International, Priority Mail International, and Express Mail International. First Class Mail International replaces Air Mail service; it is for letters, post cards and other items weighing up to 4 lbs. First Class Mail International is delivered in 4 to 7 days. Priority Mail International can be used for documnets and packages weighing up to 70 lbs. and is delivered within 5 to 8 days. Priority envelopes and boxes are available at no charge. Express Mail International is delivered within 3 to 5 days and includes tracking and minimum insurance.
BULK MAILING POSTAGE PAYMENT
In order to better manage our postage accounts, departments are not required to submit purchase orders for postage on non-profit/bulk mailings. Mail Services deposits money into the postage account at the Rome Post Office in advance. Departments will be billed for postage after the mailing is delivered to the Rome Post Office.
To ensure that adequate amounts are deposited into the postage account, it is the responsibility of the mailer to notify Mail Services in advance of upcoming mailings. Please provide us with the name of the mailing, number of pieces, expected date of the mailing, and the budget number. This procedure applies both to mailings we process and those processed by Bluk Mail Plus.
If the mailing is prepared by Bulk Mail Plus/Print Works, please send those invoices to Mail Services for payment. These invoices will allow us to verify postage charges and simplify the accounts payable process.
SHIPPING TIPS
Adequate insurance coverage is a necessity! Many of the packages sent from the college contain merchandise being returned to a vendor, or items of a time-sensitive nature. All UPS shipments are automatically insured for up to $100. If your package exceeds that value, please request additional insurance. Additional insurance is very reasonably priced at 40 cents per each additional $100 of insurance. In the event of loss or damage, you will be required to present proper documentation of value.
Did you know that many common materials can become hazardous when placed in the cargo compartment of an airplane? It is the mailer's responsibility to properly package and label these shipments, and to assure compliance with quantity limitations, etc. If you are shipping anything that could be potentially hazardous, please let us know in advance. If you are unsure whether or not an item is hazardous, we can research the DOT shipping requirements and help you select the most appropriate means of transportation.
