Students: General Enviroment
Residence Hall Rooms
All residence hall rooms have a telephone with free unlimited local calling. Berry no longer offers out-going long distance resale and so students need to arrange for their own long distance service. Berry does however, offer to its students the option of an Atlanta line. This will allow unlimited access to the place calls within the Continental United States for $10.00 per month. In most cases students simply use either their cell phone or a long distance calling card.
Cable TV is provided by Comcast to each residence hall room at no additional charge over the normal room rate. The free channel line-up includes 79 commercial channels with 11 being Berry-originated channels. Comcast can be reached at (404) 266-2278.
Each residence hall room has a 100 Mbps Ethernet connection to the backbone student network. There is a separate student computer network that is interconnected to the Internet via a 12 Mbps frame-relay circuit from BellSouth. Currently, student-owned wireless network access points are not permitted. However, all residence halls, with the exception of Dana Hall, now have fully functional wireless access. Dana currently has wireless access in the main lobby, and is expected to be completely wireless by the fall of 2009.

Accounts and Passwords
Your password for the Berry E-mail system is valid for one year from the time you last changed it. If your password is not changed at least once every 365 days, it will expire and you will become locked out of your email account until a new password is set. If you are using the online, "web access" version at https://mail.berry.edu , then you should begin to receive warning notices 14 days before your password expires. Third party e-mail programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, and Entourage do not display these notices correctly and you will not receive any warning before your password expires if you use any of these programs to read your e-mail.
Instructions for changing your Berry E-mail password:
- Go to your email account at https://mail.berry.edu and enter your username and password.
- From the menu panel (at the bottom of the left window panel), choose "Options".
- In the main window, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the button to "Change Password". This will open another window.
- Fill in the appropriate blanks as follows:
| Domain: ad Account: your username Old Password: your old password New Password: a new password you've never used before (at least 6 alpha-numeric characters long - no spaces) Confirm New Password: retype new password (NOTE: passwords are case-sensitive, so be aware if the caps-lock is on or off) |
NOTE: If you do not have a field for Domain, then use "ad\" in front of your username in the Account field. For example, if your name is John Smith, would enter: ad\jsmith in the account field. Make sure to use a "\" and not a "/" or you will get an error. |

Learnkey Online Training
Berry College uses Learnkey OnlineExpert, an online training program that allows you to have a one-on-one class with a certified software specialist. After you've watched a presentation of a certified instructor, you'll be prompted to perform hands-on lab work. This will reinforce what you've been taught. Then you can take an exam that will measure just how much you know about the subject that you've been studying. If you score well, then you should be ready to complete a certification exam and/or work in the application that you have been studying. The training program is provided free to Berry College faculty, staff, and students. It is accessible 24/7 at Berry OnlineExpert . For additional information or assistance with OnlineExpert, please contact Dan Sandberg, Technical Trainer at (706) 238-7967.
