Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know when I will be able to register online?

Online registration is available to currently enrolled students during the official pre-registration periods. Your registration time is based on the total number of hours that you have earned. Once your time slot opens, you may register or add/drop at any time until the end of pre-registration. The Registrar's Office will post a registration schedule as a link on VikingWeb prior to the beginning of pre-registration.

How do I check my hours earned?

Log into VikingWeb. Go to the Student tab and click on the "Grade Information" page which is located in the navigation bar on the left side of the page. Career earned credits, located at the top of the unofficial transcript, are the hours that you have earned.

What if I need to change my schedule after I pre-register?

After your time slot opens, you may register or make changes to your schedule until pre-registration ends.

Are there any courses for which I cannot register online?

You may not register online for internships, private music lessons, independent studies, closed classes, courses that create a time conflict on your schedule, or courses for which you have not met the pre-requisites or co-requisites. To register for these kinds of courses, you must complete the One-Stop Registration, Add/Drop, and Authorization Form, see your advisor, obtain the appropriate signatures, and bring the form to the Registrar's Office during scheduled registration hours.

When can I drop or add classes?

For Fall Semester 2007 the official drop/add period is:

Monday-Thursday, August 27-30 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Online registration is not currently available during the add/drop period. You may bring your forms to the registration windows during scheduled hours.

If I drop below 12 hours or if I drop overload hours (hours over 18) during add/drop, will I get a refund?

Yes, but the amount of your refund will depend upon when you drop those hours. For example, if you drop below 12 hours before the semester starts or during the add/drop period, you will get a 100% credit for those hours dropped. If you drop after the add/drop period, refunds are pro-rated. Please contact the Business Services Office for additional information. Also, please remember that special fees are not refundable after the end of the drop/add period.

Is there a central location to register?

No. You may register at any computer that has internet access.

What do I do if I have difficulty registering online?

You may E-mail VikingWeb support or contact the Registrar's Office at 236-2282.

Is it true that holds can be placed on my registration?

Yes. If you have a problem with the Business Services Office or the Admissions Office, they may place a hold on your registration. In addition, the Health and Wellness Center may place a hold if they do not have proof of immunization on file for you. Also, if you are on academic probation and have not met with Dr. McKee, the associate provost and dean of academic services, she will place a hold on your registration. Holds mean that you cannot pre-register until you contact the appropriate office and resolve the problem. You may view holds by logging into VikingWeb and clicking the Campus Web link. The main welcome page for Campus Web displays any holds on your registration as well as special warnings. The warnings do not prevent registration.

What if I decide to withdraw from school?

You must complete withdrawal papers in the Office of the Associate Provost and Dean of Academic Services (room 242, Hermann Hall).

What does TBA mean?

If you see TBA indicated for a class time or classroom location, you should contact the instructor for this information. TBA means TO BE ARRANGED, and it is the student's responsibility to initiate the arrangement.

What does an "H" or an "I" after a course number mean?

An "H" means the course is designated as an honors course. There are special requirements to take the class. For additional information, refer to your catalog or contact the director of the Honors program. An "I" after a course means that the course is writing intensive. Students are required to complete two "I"-designated courses to complete their degree requirements.

May I register for only one part of a lecture/lab course (example-BIO106, BIO106AL, BIO106BL)?

No. If you register for either the lecture section without the lab section or the lab section without the lecture section, the section that you did register for will be removed from your schedule.

May I register for one part of a course sequence if they are co-requisites (example-HPE223/224)?

No. If you register for a course that has a co-requisite and do not register for the co-requisite course, the course that you did add to your schedule will be removed.
