Welcome to the SGA Website!
Welcome to another great year at Berry College
I am very excited for the 2009-2010 school year. With all of the new additions and continued construction going on around campus, Berry is continually changing. The Student Government Association is also continuing to change and grow this year. Some of you might be asking yourself what exactly SGA is and does. Here at Berry, SGA serves two main purposes. The first main purpose is that we serve as a voice for the students. Within SGA, we have a secretary, treasurer, two vice presidents, and a president. We work closely with the faculty, staff, and administration on a daily basis. We work to bring student voices and opinions to them and to bring their thoughts back to the students. However, we are not the only one’s working to have student voices heard. There are many opportunities for other students to be involved with SGA. We also have class officers, club representatives, at large representatives, and residence hall representatives. We have SGA meetings weekly on Tuesday nights at 7pm in the Science Auditorium. These meetings are a great way to stay informed about what is going on around campus. We bring in guest speakers from around the campus and give away great door prizes. We also have students serving on committees around the campus. These students are involved in making important decisions about the school that will not only affect them but future students.
Our second purpose here at Berry is service. We provide services to make life at Berry better for students. We provide Berry Bellhops for first year students in August, where upperclassmen students help freshman move into their room. We also provide Bookswap, which is where students can buy and sell textbooks at the beginning of each semester for a lower price than the bookstore. SGA also coordinates Food for Finals, where faculty, staff, and administration stay up late to serve students food to give us energy and encouragement for studying. We also have a Baked Goods Service, which is where parents can order homemade goodies to be delivered to student’s room. In the spring semester, we put together final exam kits for students. SGA is also responsible for blood drives during the year as well as other service projects.
As you can see, SGA is all around you. However, we would not be the Student Government Association without you the students. As a student, you are already a member of SGA. I encourage all of you to take advantage of that and get involved. However, even if you do not get involved in SGA, I encourage you to get involved in something. It will make your experience here at Berry much better, I guarantee it. I hope you are all excited about the upcoming year. If you ever need anything, do not hesitate to come to SGA. We have an office on the 3rd floor of Krannert and we love visitors. So stop by and say “hi”.
I hope you enjoy the rest of our website and do not forget about our weekly meetings on Tuesdays at 7pm.
Enjoy,
Amber Hawter
