Leadership Fellows

leadershipfellows

From its inception, Berry students have always been leaders. When Berry was founded, students took an active role in the tasks that enabled the community to live and learn, participating in everything from growing crops to making uniforms and serving food. Over time, Berry students became leaders in activities and programs that serve the campus community and in serving the Rome community as well. Learning to lead and serve is integral to a Berry education as students live and learn civic engagement from the inside out.

It is in this spirit that a new scholarship program has been created, the Berry Leadership Fellows Program. The purpose of the program is to recognize students for extraordinary leadership and service experiences in their high school years as well as identify students who can make a difference in providing leadership and teaching leadership within the campus community.

High school seniors, who have been admitted to Berry, have demonstrated significant
leadership and service experiences, and have maintained at minimum 3.0 high school grade point average, will be invited to participate in an on-campus competition. Five students will be
selected annually to receive a scholarship and a stipend to serve as Leadership Fellows. This is a four year program and continuance is based on the college criteria to maintain a merit
scholarship and satisfactory progress in completing the co-curricular requirements. The Leadership Fellows program consists of annual activities for the entire group and responsibilities that vary by class year. These include:

1. Students will learn to identify their core leadership competencies and develop a learning
plan to strengthen their skills.
2. Participants will participate in an annual August retreat and in leadership and civic
engagement workshops throughout the academic year.
3. The fellows will choose and participate in an annual service project.
4. Beginning in their sophomore year, fellows will be part of the LEAD (Leadership Education
and Development) team. Responsibilities of this team include providing on-going
leadership education for student organization leaders, assisting with a high school
leadership workshop, and other campus leadership workshops or retreats.
5. Upper-class fellows will be paired with first and second year students as mentors in the
program.
