Dean of the Evans School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences
Gabriel Barreneche is the Dean of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences, here at Berry College. Prior to coming to Berry, Dr. Barreneche was a Professor of Spanish and Associate Dean for Advising at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, where he taught for 18 years.
While an undergraduate Spanish major at Boston College, Dr. Barreneche participated in that institution’s study abroad program at the Universidad de San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador. After completing his undergraduate degree, Dr. Barreneche moved to San Diego and worked in a housing program for migrant farm workers through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. He then returned to academia and completed his M.A. and Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literatures at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He has published research on Latin American literature, culture, and film, service-learning and language instruction, as well as the groundbreaking text, Educational Technology for the Global Village. He was also the finalist of the Don Quijote Award as Hispanic Professional of the Year in Central Florida.
