Michelle Haney

Dr. Michelle Haney is a Professor of Psychology and Director of the Autism/Applied Behavior Analysis Program at Berry College.  Her current research interests include transitioning students with developmental disabilities from high school to the community, inclusive post-secondary education opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities, and the intersection of history, culture, and current practices that support independence and self- determination for people with intellectual disabilities.   Dr. Haney especially enjoys teaching courses that actively engage students in community projects, while also supporting inclusive opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. Students in Dr. Haney’s Introduction to Autism and Developmental Disabilities course partner with adults with developmental disabilities to build communication/literacy skills, and with high school students with intellectual disabilities to identify vocational goals and the skills needed for employment after high school.  In addition, Dr. Haney is currently conducting historical research about institutionalization of people with intellectual disabilities in Georgia.

Dr. Haney received her BA degree in psychology from Oglethorpe University, her Master's and Specialist Degrees in school psychology from the University of Georgia, and her Ph.D. in school psychology from Georgia State University. For eight years, she worked as a school psychologist in Bartow and Cobb County Schools in Georgia, with a clinical specialty in developmental disabilities. More recently, Dr. Haney completed supervised clinical experiences in Applied Behavior Analysis, working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in clinic settings.
