Susan Conradsen, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Psychology, Director of the Signature Experience Program, and also the Director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at Berry. In addition to these positions, Dr. Conradsen is also a licensed clinical psychologist. She is particularly interested in gender and media, health psychology, and gendered violence. She also conducts research on issues of mothering such as: childbirth, work/family issues and mother activism. Dr. Conradsen has published papers examining maternalism, activist mothering, health of individuals with HIV/AIDS and gender equity in schools. Currently, Dr. Conradsen is exploring the connection between narrative and gender justice, specifically the pedagogy of feminist storytelling and constraints placed on the self-reflective personal narratives of men.
In addition to her scholarly work in psychology and women’s studies, Dr. Conradsen is interested in assisting students as they work on evaluating, connecting and articulating their learning, in and out of the classroom. Dr. Conradsen regularly teaches the Signature Experience Seminar, where she serves as a mentor to guide students from a variety of majors and experiences to provide a community in which students learn how to articulate their experiences. Dr. Conradsen is interested in scholarship related to articulation of learning, and the power of reflection in undergraduate education.
