Gate Scholarship

INVESTING IN YOUR FUTURE THROUGH A UNIQUE PARTNERSHIP

If you’re a hardworking student looking for a stellar college education that ensures you’ll graduate with little to no debt, then the Gate of Opportunity Scholarship is an opportunity well worth considering. It’s built on a collaborative partnership between you and a generous donor, Berry College and your family. While you commit to working on campus and allotting a portion of your earnings toward your education, your partners will invest financially.

Through the program’s professional and personal development opportunities, you’ll gain the skills, resources, tools and connections that will empower you to graduate with confidence — well prepared for your life and career beyond Berry. And you’ll be ready to pay it forward by sharing your success story and investing in others.

HOW DOES YOUR PARTICIPATION ADD VALUE TO A BERRY COLLEGE EDUCATION?

You’ll benefit from the program while living on campus, preparing for your career or graduate school and pursuing personal and professional goals because of:

  • Academic achievement resulting from the program’s partnership with Berry’s Academic Success Center, which provides ongoing support through check-ins, tutoring and events that bolster learning
  • Transferable skills gained through unique programming tailored for Gate scholars, including community events, mentoring, professional development workshops, leadership development and personal growth through financial wellness workshops and service opportunities
  • Graduation with four years of solid work experience critical to competitive positioning for the job market or graduate school
  • A network of mentors — your donor, faculty, staff to Gate alums and peer scholars — who will offer advice, references and letters of recommendation long after graduation

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

The Gate of Opportunity Scholarship is a competitive merit- and work-based scholarship. To be eligible, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To be considered for the program, students must:

  • Demonstrate excellence of character, tenacity, leadership and work ethic
  • Show commitment to hard work, community, and professional and personal development
  • Have demonstrated financial need, based on the results of the FAFSA

WHAT IS THE COMMITMENT ASKED OF YOU?

  • During the academic year — 12 hours of work per week for first-year students, 16 hours of work per week for upperclassmen
  • During summers and breaks — 32 hours of work per week for first-year students, 40 hours of work per week for upperclassmen
  • 80% of earnings going toward direct cost (tuition, fees, housing and meal plan)
  • Responsibility for personal expenses associated with living at Berry year-round
  • Participation in required Gate programming throughout the academic year and summer.
