That’s how many hours Berry students contributed in service during the 2024-25 academic year. As reported by Haley Smith, Berry’s chief belonging and community engagement officer, that total encompassed the Bonner Scholars Program, first-year engagement, Be Love Week and Year of Service cottages. Not included were the many additional hours logged through community-engaged courses, student organizations, athletic teams, LifeWorks roles and internships with local partners.
“For a college of our size, that kind of collective effort speaks volumes,” Smith marveled. “Service at Berry isn’t just something students do – it’s part of who they are. Each time I see a student offering their time, energy or heart to a neighbor, I’m reminded of Berry’s mission: ‘to inspire leaders of integrity who cultivate thriving communities.’ And our motto? ‘Not to be ministered unto, but to minister’ – it’s alive and well in moments like these.”
