Berry’s comprehensive LifeReady Campaign closed this fall after raising more than $135 million in support of scholarships, facilities and programs that already are changing lives and enhancing opportunity for Berry students.

Dr. Amelia “Mimi” Hofstetter and Dr. Yuko Sato never would have met had it not been for Berry. Today, the accomplished scientists and lifelong friends can’t imagine life without each other.

Dr. Beverly Philpot Smith (69C, FFS), Dr. Melanie Peterson Bliss (96C), Karen Houghton (01C), and Chad Michael Nash (13C, FFS) are the 2020 recipients of the Berry Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Awards.

Genesis Leggett (20C) lost her opportunity to compete for a national championship in track and field due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the new graduate is optimistic and excited as she pursues career opportunities she discovered as a Berry student.

Sam (76C, 78G) and Nancy Duval (77C) Ratcliffe met at Berry and were married in the college chapel. Now they have returned as residents of The Spires at Berry College, a new continuing care retirement community that opened in June.

Kathy Insel Brown (95C) helped Berry win a national championship as a student-athlete. As the new head coach for women’s soccer, she hopes to help a new generation of Vikings achieve similar goals.

Not even a worldwide pandemic could stop Berry alumni from coming together (virtually) for the college’s annual Mountain Day celebration.

The 10-year-old, great great grandson of Thomas Berry sold ice cream on his birthday this year to raise money for the Save a Student Scholarship.

The Berry College Board of Trustees has tapped new leadership in Chair Rick Gilbert (77c) and Vice Chair Bert Clark (82C), as well as electing three new members and welcoming a fourth in an ex officio capacity.
