Colorful Tapestries on display at Moon Gallery

Artist Tommye McClure Scanlin’s handwoven tapestry collection, “Time Woven,” will be on display in the Berry College Moon Gallery March 14 to April 8.

The opening reception is Monday (March 14) at 5 p.m. Dress is casual.

“Time Woven” features the unique vision of Scanlin in handwoven tapestry, a method that involves interweaving threads of different colors on parallel vertical threads. The University of North Georgia professor has been using this method to create her images since 1988.

Scanlin’s completed tapestries have recently been shown in the 2015 Instructor Exhibition at Arrowmont School of Crafts, Velocity of Textiles at Georgia State University and Intertwined: Contemporary Southeastern Fiber Art at Hudgens Center for the Arts in Duluth, Ga.

The Moon Gallery is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
