City of Rome Recognizes Physician Associates

Rome Mayor Craig McDaniel and the Rome City Commission recently proclaimed Oct.6-12 as National PA Week in Rome to recognize the valuable contribution of physician assistants in the local community.

PAs are licensed clinicians who practice medicine in every specialty to diagnose, treat illness and disease, and prescribe medication for patients in collaboration with physicians.

Berry College welcomed its first cohort of PA students this year. The Berry PA program is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) and grants students a Master of Medical Science degree upon completion. The program focuses on providing rural health medicine and clinical opportunities to students through partnerships with two hospitals in the area.

The newly constructed Morgan-Bailey Hall houses Berry's health science programs, such as nursing, exercise science and PA programs. The 36,000-square-foot building features simulation suites, labs, mock operating rooms and more.

McDaniel honored PAs, stating “I encourage all residents to recognize and celebrate the important role that PAs play in improving health, advancing equity and delivering high-quality care across the health care system.”
