Harmony Petty (21c) never dreamed of starting her own business, but when friends and family showed an interest in her crafts, she jumped in with both feet – at the age of 14.
Six years later, “Harmony’s Crafty Creations” has developed a loyal following, with customers flocking to her website and Facebook page to browse her unique mix of handcrafted t-shirts, onesies, wreaths and other items. She also sells her creations at farmers markets and other special events, including Mountain Day.
Now a sophomore at Berry, Petty has found support for her growing business as an Entrepreneurial Scholar. She was the first freshman to earn this distinction, which provides her with the opportunity to run Harmony’s Crafty Creations from an office inside Green Hall, among other benefits. She spends up to 40 hours a week managing her business, balancing those demands with her responsibilities as a full-time student pursuing a degree in early childhood education.
“She has an amazing work ethic and a great connection with her customers,” said Management Professor Paula Englis, director of Berry’s entrepreneurship program. “She knows what will sell and does a lot of product development and customization to meet customers’ needs.”
