From designing clothes for Berry’s theatre department, to being a Lettie Pate Whitehead scholar, sophomore Trinity Hutchins is making her mark on Berry.
At a young age, Trinity Hutchins discovered her passion for design by teaching herself how to sew at the age of 10. She currently works at the Sisters Theatre costume shop, where she makes alterations to preexisting garments, as well as helps construct new garments for each Berry College Theatre Company production.
“At the costume shop, I have the opportunity to sew every single day, which is a total dream come true to my four-year-old self. These skills will translate directly to my career aspirations!” Trinity says. Associate Professor in Theatre, Alice Bristow, Trinity’s supervisor, has helped her improve immensely with her skill in the costume shop. She also has designed multiple t-shirts for the Oak Hill Gift Shop where she works as the Product Development Manager.
Outside her passion for design, Trinity is a Lettie Pate Whitehead Scholarship recipient. Mrs. Whitehead’s scholarship program awards annual grants for multiple deserving female students across the nation. Through Lettie Pate Whitehead, Trinity is able to serve and give back to children who have food insecurity, a circumstance she was very familiar with as a child.
In October, Trinity was selected among nine other girls from three different schools to take part in a film highlighting the life and legacy of Mrs. Lettie Pate Whitehead. A representative visited Berry’s campus and joined Trinity throughout her day to show the impact Mrs. Whitehead’s life continues to make on others.
“Being a Lettie Pate Whitehead Scholar has changed my life. I truthfully would not have been able to experience all of the amazing opportunities provided by Berry if not for the Lettie Pate Whitehead Scholarship,” she says. “I am certain that receiving the Whitehead Scholarship was orchestrated by the hand of God and I will never take that for granted. It has completely opened the world for me.”
